Process Enhancement Road Map

The business of Process Improvement (PI) has been around for years. This activity was initially rooted in the manufacturing space through various techniques such as JIT, Lean, QFD, Six Sigma, etc. Organizations started seeing the value of manufacturing PI and started applying the PI principles to the non-manufacturing "office business process" space. PI will continue to play a significant role in the "office business process" area. This area is fraught with immense waste and offers significant opportunities for cost reduction.

Operating in the current dynamic economic environment is a challenge for most organizations. With top line growth difficult to achieve, there is constant pressure to meet margin commitments. This has led organizations to significantly reduce cost and PI offers companies a significant opportunity.

Some organizations face cost reduction in a “smart” way whereas many others view this as a quick short term exercise. Taking a disciplined approach to PI is very critical. Often organizations do not take the disciplined approach because they get scared by the "Six Sigma" jargon and the buzz words. Organizations would embrace PI more easily if the principles were communicated in "Plain English".
